Lucy Jane Taylor was born 12 August 1869 at Millcreek, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was the third child of George Bernard Taylor and Lucy Lavinia Hughes, who came from Credinhill, Hereford, England, after they were married.
Lucy lived her young life in Millcreek, Utah, helping on the home site and helping with the other children. They were among the first settlers of this little town and had to do much clearing of land and building of buildings.
Lucy met Joshua Brigham Morgan while she was a teen-ager. They were married in the Logan Temple 15 December 1886. They moved to LaBelle, Idaho, where Joshua had established a homestead. They lived in a two room log cabin for many years. There was much work to be done and Lucy Jane helped all she could. Many times she and the children would pile the sage brush after it had been railed off the ground and get it read to be burned.
Lucy and “Brig” had 9 children—Eugene; George, who died in infancy; Lucy Lavenia; Elva; Minnie; Elwin; Alice, who died in infancy; Edith and Vera. They lived in the log cabin until Eugene was 16 years old. Then they built a 2 story log home (where Golden and Lois now live.) They had many happy times as a family, as Lucy Jane was a happy, jolly person.
She was active in the church and enjoyed music. Her children all had the opportunity to play the organ that they had in their home. Two of them became accomplished pianists.
Lucy Jane was a large person, but was very active. She loved her grandchildren and the family met at her home for each holiday. Many picnics were held on the ranch owned by her son, Eugene, at Antelope. Lucy Jane enjoyed people and was always in the center of the activities. She had a few years that she didn’t feel well and died at her home 14 January 1923.
